This is the tale of 8 men and 4 kayaks who - over 9 days - are pushing physical and mental boundaries in a grueling 400mile kayaking challenge. The 8 strong team of all shapes and sizes have stepped up to this challenge in the name of charity, spending 9 days huddled together in their kayaks, paddling their way to a large cheque for their chosen charitable organisation PROPS, who provide much needed support and educational facilities to children with special needs, right up to adult hood, giving them the best possible skills for life and career.
The team has now commenced training for this gruelling event – click here to see pictures of their efforts so far!
Big thanks go to Perception Kayaks and Outdoor Active for their generosity in helping to supply 2 man kayaks for the trip.
So can they do it? If anyone can, they will! Last year founding members of the team cycled from John O' Groats to Lands End, 900 miles in 9 days and raised £9000. This year they planned to cycle from Bristol to Biarritz crossing the English Channel, over another gruelling 9 days - but why cycle when there are so many other sporting challenges out there for the taking!?
This year they wanted to do it bigger and better, and do something completely unique, that had never been achieved before. Having recruited friends and colleagues who praised their efforts last year, the 2008 team got their thinking caps on to see how could they push the boat out (ahem, excuse the pun) for this year’s fundraising sporting extravaganza, and came up with the '400 mile 8 men kayak challenge'.
Hence this trip.
It will be hard, it will be physically and mentally exhausting, but when you consider that the youngsters that PROPS works with face real challenges every single day of their lives, it puts things into perspective.
